Internet of things (IoT), as an advanced paradigm to connect physical and virtual
things for enhanced services, has been introduced that can provide significant improvements
in remote elderly monitoring. It is the fact that these aged population in the old age homes are
suffering from many issues. So they need special attention to look after them and provide
sufficient care. As the increasing popularity in old age homes, it is impractical to assign each
person to a caretaker. Consequently, with the help of IOT a system is proposed to tracking of
these people. This system proposes an innovation based on embedded system consisting of a
switch to connect to support centre for various services such as ambulance, police, food and
medicine delivery, paying bills and other services etc. When the switch is pressed an
emergency message is sent to the support centre including details of person, geographical
location, and type of service. Based on the service requested, automatically or with help of a
support agent, urgent response action is taken. The device is powered by our embedded OS
and connected to our backend that provide the requirements. The IoT Connectivity is
achieved by GPRS module along with Real Time Operating System. The web backend must
be tested and free from bugs and when the data is send between two parties it has to be
encoded in some format and claims should be protected. We need a cloud based server and it
should be protected with firewalls and proxy server. All changes made in code will be
committed to a desired development platform to make coding more efficient and scalable. In
our proposed system, the backend ensures proper authentication and security by means of
selecting emerging technologies. We are using Django frame work and nodejs together for
backend implementation. The django framework is used for web development where nodejs
is used to socket connectivity. The api interface for users is achieved by using django rest
framework. DigitalOcean cloud service is employed as cloud server and github is the
developer platform which is used for integrated working of programmers. Nginx proxy server
is employed and postgresql is used as the database.
