The project is to understand the Kerala floods of 2018, precipitation data from global
Precipitation Measurement (GPM), Integrated Multi-satellite Retrievals for GPM (IMERG)
Late precipitation product are analysed to see the spatial distribution of rainfall during 2018
and its comparison with previous years is done to see the variability in pattern of rainfall and
flooding impact. IMERG version 5 (V05) level 3 products are used in this study. The level 3
products include gridded rainfall and snowfall data, with 0.1◦ × 0.1◦ spatial resolution and 30
min temporal resolution, generated from combining PMW and IR data of the GPM
constellation satellites, and calibrated by gauge analysis of the Global Precipitation
Climatology Centre (GPCC).
