Coastalmonitoringisthemostemployedmethodwhichisbeingused to
understandthemechanismswhichcontrolsbeachevolutions.Amongthe
enormousmethodsofoceanmonitoringlikebeachcampaigns,aerialimagery
monitoring,satelliteremotesensingandotherGIStechniques,oneadvanced
andmoreaccuratemethodofcoastalmonitoringinvolvesvideomonitoring
techniques.Thisisonetechniquewhichsbeingdevelopedoveradecadeand
stillgettingmuchpopularityallovertheworldasitallowsthestudyof
coastalenvironmentinacontinuativeandautomaticway.Sothiscanbeused
formonitoringnearshore processesin bothhightemporaland spatial
samplingfrequency,withlowlogisticandcostefforts.Oncomparingwithall
theothermethods,itismorepreciseandaccurate,asitcanbedeployedover
lowcost,anditprovidesmorerealtimedatawithoutanytimeconsumption.
Climaticandseasonalvariationsoverthenearshoreregioncanbeeasily
obtainedandanalyzed overalarge areaofthecoastlineevenly.Many
parametersofinterestwhichcanbestudiedinrealtimewiththistechnique
,whichincludesevolutionoftheshorelineandsubmergedbars,wavedirection,
stormimpactandseasonalchanges.
Thepurposeofthisstudyincludesextractionofshorelineandanalyzingits
changesovertimebyusingthevideoremotesensingtechniques.Shoreline
whichisthe zoneofcontactbetweenthebodyofwaterandland,whichisan
interfacewhichchangesovertimeduetovariousbiological,physical,chemical
anddynamicalmethods.Extractingtheshorelineandanalyzingitsvariations
over aregulartimeperiodcanbeusedtounderstandtherateofcoastal
erosionsthathappenedduetovariouscauses,bothnaturalandunderhuman
interventions.Theentirestudyisconductedbyusingtimeximageswhichare
obtainedfromvideoimagery.Forprocessing,extractingandanalyzingthereal
timedataMatlabisused.Herethesnapshotsfrom videodataatatime
scheduleof10minutes,inwhichthefrequencyofthevideodataisreducedto
2Hztounderstandthealongshoreandoffshoremorphologicalchanges.
